I had the opportunity to participate in the Social Start-up Santhe on May 10 organized by NS Raghavan Center for Entrepreneurial Learning (NSRCEL) of the Indian Institute of Management, Bengaluru.

NSRCEL is the social ventures incubation program at the Indian Institute of Management, Bengaluru. After introductions by Debasish Mitter, Director – Michael and Susan Dell Foundation and a keynote by Sameer Gadre, President India & SAARC, Cisco delegates got an opportunity to interact with various social start-ups and ventures at stalls on the campus. The problems the social start-ups were tackling impressed me – from turning waste into ‘green’ products to women safety; from making sports accessible to building marketplaces; from supporting rural artisans to assessing social impact. The ideas had serious intent and the potential to scale.

Workshops on a host of topics like design thinking, storytelling for social ventures and systems thinking provided participants with ideas and approaches to make a difference. NSRCEL has incubated 225+ start-ups in the social space, has touched 46,000 entrepreneurs through a wide range of initiatives and supported a combined value of USD 1.5 billion with its 95 incubated ventures.
