If you ran the same engagement survey next quarter and changed nothing based on the last one, would employees notice, or would they just assume that’s how it works?
For most organisations, they’d assume that’s how it works, because it usually is. A single post-campaign survey mostly tells you what people remember reading, not what they understood or believed. Better signal comes from short comprehension checks close to the moment of communication, and from skip-level conversations and small focus groups that surface the yes, but reactions a survey flattens into a satisfaction score.
For trust, I trust behaviour over self-report. Are people forwarding or acting on leadership messages without being asked. Are manager cascades happening without being chased. Is employee-generated content rising or quietly disappearing.
The step almost everyone skips is closing the loop: showing employees exactly what changed because of what they said. Skip that once and people stop bothering to answer honestly. Skip it twice and they stop answering at all.
What did your last round of employee feedback change, and did anyone tell the employees who gave it?
