Internal Communication

Timing the e-mail communication and how to break the mould

I chanced upon this interesting study on internal communications which talks of e-mail clutter on page 8.

While this is an issue with many organizations, I guess we try to find other media to communicate and sometimes fail to address the timing of the communication itself.

From what I hear Intel does a good job internally to find out which time works best for opening and reading mail communication.

So maybe next time, it would make sense to plug in a question on ‘timing’ in your employee communication survey to get a fair idea of what works. I am aware that most employees prefer to read long, important mailers just after lunch time or during the team break period.

Maybe, your organization has a different employee time cycle?
