Communication and Collaboration Key To Employee Engagement – Reports 2013 India’s Best Companies to Work For Study

Recently, I blogged on the need for organizations to revisit approaches and elements of employee engagement and the implications for internal communicators.

The 2013 Great Place to Work Study results are out and when one scans through the list it consistently shows up the same organizations that featured over the years.  Direct communication and collaboration were two themes that stood out for me personally. Not because it relates to the work I do but it didn’t feature as strongly in 2012 as areas that best employers did right. Other themes that emerged were: employee caring, fairness, recognition, manager empowerment and open practices.

In the 2012 results, organizations who invested in reinforcing workplace culture made strides. If the results last year indicated a move to rebuild trust and keep morale high after the economic downturn, this year’s trends demonstrate attempts by organizations to raise the bar through involvement and connection.

Not surprised to also note that career growth is a strong driver for retention among the younger workforce.

The 2013 results allude to the role of leadership in making clear commitments for engagement rather than a one-off exercise.

While there isn’t a silver bullet that can engage staff it is useful to understand what makes some organizations stay consistently ahead of the rest and identify approaches that work best for your culture.
